Culture arrives at the port – 45 years of Tuuliajolla history

Savonlinna's passenger port will become a living cultural stage when s/s Heinävesi The 45th anniversary of the steamship Tuuliajolla will kick off with the theme event Culture arrives at the port – 45 years of Tuuliajolla history.

The event takes visitors back in time to 1981, when the legendary Tuuliajolla tour sailed the waters of Lake Saimaa and left a lasting mark on Finnish music history. Now this story comes back to life in the harbour – through music, theatre and stories. The programme includes live music in a Tuuliajolla-themed concert, re-enactments of scenes from the original tour, a speech by Juho Juntunen, the author of the Tuuliajolla book, and the publication of the anniversary Tuuliajolla book. In addition, the event offers a cultural history micro-exhibition featuring photographs, newspaper clippings and stories from the original tour.

The public has the opportunity to rise to the historic s/s Heinävesi -ship and experience the authentic Tuuliajolla atmosphere. The ship acts as the centerpiece of the event and a living cultural heritage site, combining the past and the present in a unique way.

The event is open and free to everyone. Its goal is to bring culture closer to people, increase its accessibility, and strengthen Savonlinna's position as a vibrant cultural city.

Tuuliajolla 2026 – the first tour ship

In the summer of 1981, Finnish music history was made when the legendary Tuuliajolla tour set off – on a ship. s/s Heinävesi was not just a means of transportation. It was the first tour ship.

Now this story is coming back to life.

s/s Heinävesi, a 120-year-old authentic steamship, will transport you to a summer evening where the spirit of Finnish rock lives on: live music, stories, singing together and the lake landscape merge into one experience.
